Farm Manager - Winter and Summer Cropping, Monto QLD We seek a dedicated individual for a newly created role within this dynamic family agribusiness. The role involves working alongside an existing vibrant team and the owners to manage and enhance the performance of their dryland and irrigated cropping enterprise. By doing so, you will play a key role in enabling the owners to focus on strategic business development rather than being tied down by day-to-day operations.
The enterprise encompasses four properties spanning 3,700 acres near Monto, QLD, with winter and summer cropping across 2,200 acres of highly productive soils. The summer crop is the most lucrative and includes corn, soybeans, mung beans, and sorghum, with cereals grown in the winter. The region benefits from coastal-influenced weather, reliable rainfall, and highly productive soil types, creating ideal conditions for producing high-yielding, top-quality crops. Modern, high-quality John Deere machinery and extensive infrastructure ensure efficient management, with seven state-of-the-art spray irrigators in operation, including lateral and pivot systems with direct injection for fertigation.
In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to oversee and manage the day-to-day cropping operations and maintain the modern, GPS-equipped machinery fleet. Your expertise in managing this, along with the staff and machinery, will be crucial to ensure smooth operational schedules. Furthermore, your input in shaping the strategic direction of the overall cropping enterprise will be highly regarded. We seek someone who understands the management of high-yielding summer and winter cropping, chemical use, and agronomy.
The Employer: Your prospective employers are a family-owned and operated business with several agricultural enterprises, including piggery (separately managed) and beef cattle production. You will be welcomed into a company that supports each staff member's growth and provides career progression where possible. Flexibility is also given, with a TIL system allowing a healthy work-life balance.
The Offer: Your employers recognise this is a crucial role in their cropping enterprise and are proud to offer a generous package, including a negotiable salary component and attached incentive scheme. You can choose between two fantastic family homes: a newly constructed four-bedroom, two-bath home in Monto or a freshly renovated four-bedroom, two-bath home on the property 1 kilometre from Monto township.
The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for a trustworthy, reliable, and honest person. This hands-on role requires you to undertake all on-farm duties while keeping the owners well-informed of all activities and your staff engaged and mentored. You will be considered a teammate within this business and will work with the owners, not against them.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you will update the owners on all activities undertaken and regularly liaise with consultants, suppliers, and agronomists. You will be ambitious and always looking for the next challenge. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and is willing to take a high degree of responsibility and ownership of the property's success.
Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a passion for farming who holds a minimum of 5 years' experience in the management of intensive summer and winter cropping as well as:
HC licence (advantageous) and Chemical certificate Extensive machinery operation experience and strong mechanical aptitude Tech savvy Attention to detail, strong communication, organisational and time management skills Business acumen along with leadership and staff management skills Register your interest: If you feel you're the right fit for this position, please submit an up-to-date resume along with the contact details of 3 references.
