The Opportunity Hybrid/Flexible working arrangements including 9-day fortnight$123,044 - $138,637 (depending on experience) + 17% super + annual leave loadingFull-time (35 hours week) | Continuing, permanent roleThe Research Ethics & Compliance Support (RECS) team coordinates committees and processes for research involving humans, animals, gene technology, radiation safety and research export controls and provides advice on legislative and other requirements in these areas.
Reporting to the Manager of Research Ethics and Compliance Support (RECS), the Export Controls Compliance Officer provides strategic export control and compliance guidance to the Manager and the Director. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing the Export Controls Framework and serve as the main contact for the Department of Defence and UNSW Researchers, offering high level specialist advice on compliance requirements. Additionally, you'll enhance Export Control processes through the development of resources, such as procedures, guidelines, website information and training modules. You'll also contribute to strategic and operational projects within the RECS Office, aligning with the Division's goals.

Additional 3 days of leave over the Christmas PeriodAccess to lifelong learning and career developmentProgressive HR practicesDiscounts and entitlementsAbout the successful applicant You have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or substantial experience in export control or compliance environments and can demonstrate your in-depth knowledge of export control regulations, including the Defence Trade Controls Act, and the ability to interpret and apply these regulations effectively.
Your experience includes administering and monitoring compliance processes, ensuring adherence to relevant policies and regulatory requirements through meticulous reporting and record-keeping. You are adept at developing comprehensive training programs and resources to promote awareness of compliance obligations among staff and students, fostering a culture of compliance.
Additionally, you have advanced level written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail and experience in generating formal and complex meeting minutes and communications. High-level organisational skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and operate autonomously. Proficiency in computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft 365 and other relevant systems and applications, is required.
You'll also be able to demonstrate your understanding and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values, as well as relevant policies and guidelines. Lastly, you should possess knowledge of health and safety responsibilities, both psychosocial and physical, and a commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
