Job DescriptionJOB OVERVIEW: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Qualified Gardener with a Certificate III in Horticulture to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of plants, garden maintenance, and horticultural techniques. They must also have an eye for quality and detail, and be a strong communicator. This role involves maintaining and enhancing gardens, landscapes, and outdoor spaces for a range of clients to ensure they remain healthy, vibrant, and visually appealing.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION: SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT Be proactive in identifying hazards, developing safety procedures, and encouraging continuous improvement in relation to HSE.Assist in identifying hazards, advising on safety procedures, and monitoring work practices to ensure adherence to correct procedures and standards for safety and environmental performance.Report to your Manager or QHSE Manager any situation that could result in harm to a person, the environment or may adversely affect the services we provide our customers.Understand and support the annual QHSE objectives.To immediately pause or make safe any work condition or activity that could result in immediate harm and immediately notify either by phone or in person the responsible line manager and the QHSE adviser or Director.Leading and promoting the implementation of the integrated management systems for Quality, Safety, Health and the Environment.To not punish or discipline any worker for reporting any safety or health issue.CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Communicate with client representatives on a day to day basis, to plan work, keep them informed of progress, resolve any issues of concern, and identify variations or additional work.OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE Conduct weekly pre-start inspections of vehicles and mowers.Complete daily risk assessments for each worksite.Mow, flat whip and straight edge lawns, using push mowers, ride on mowers (front deck & Zero Turn), edging machines and whipper snippers.Plant garden beds, fertilise and spread mulch.Remove litter from garden beds and driveways.Operate leaf blower to clear leaves and grass clippings from hard surfaces.Shape hedges to control height and width with hedge shears or powered hedger.Prune plants to remove fronds and overgrown and dead branches.Maintain the health of all plants with identification and prevention of diseases and pests.Use of spraying equipment like backpack sprayer and motorised spraying equipment, to control weeds, pests and insects.Tasks to be carried out in a manner that causes the least inconvenience to customers, staff and the general public.Place temporary warning signs when required.Operate equipment and machinery in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and the SNT operating procedures.Report maintenance and repair issues to the area supervisor.Understand and comply with quality, safety, health and environmental policies.Follow written instructions, verbal direction and procedures to perform work.Challenge any instructions that you believe places anyone or the environment at risk.Take personal responsibility to protect the health and safety of people or the environment.PEOPLE AND TEAMS Maintain a high level of communication and cooperative working relationships with all parties.OTHER Undertake other tasks to support the project or business operations as required. Adhere to the Direction, Competence, Opportunity, and Motivation (D-COM) principles.Desired Skills and ExperienceSELECTION CRITERIA: ESSENTIALS: Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent.Proven experience in garden maintenance, landscaping, and plant care.Strong understanding of horticultural practices, plant species, and seasonal requirements.Strong attention to detail and quality standards.Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with clients, team members, and supervisors.Physically fit and able to handle the demands of outdoor work in various weather conditions.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Passion for gardening and the outdoors.Creative approach to problem-solving and landscaping.Attention to detail and pride in maintaining high-quality gardens.
