Executive Director, National AI Centre (SES Band 1)Full time
The National AI Centre (NAIC) was established in 2021 to support and accelerate Australia's AI industry. In July 2024, the NAIC moved into the Department of Industry, Science and Resources to reinforce the Australian Government's ambition for Australia to be one of the global leaders in developing and adopting trusted, secure, and responsible AI.
The NAIC is partnering with industry and the broader ecosystem to uplift Australia's AI capability, support SME success with AI, and promote the practice of safe and responsible AI. Our team is actively engaging with industry and the AI ecosystem to support the landing of priority initiatives and gathering perspectives to shape the government's AI strategy.
As the Executive Director, you will:
Lead a highly motivated industry-focused team to deliver on the objectives of NAIC.Lead the transformation of Australia's AI ecosystem.Contribute to the Government's agenda to position Australia as a global leader in developing and adopting trusted, secure, and responsible AI.Advise and support the Government on the full range of portfolio issues.Promote the role and work of the department across government.We're looking for an exceptional industry leader for NAIC to drive the transformation of Australia's AI ecosystem. Our ideal candidate will have the gravitas to lead the NAIC and work closely with other industry leaders to uplift safe and responsible AI practices and industry capability. As a key leader and representative of the department, your common sense, political nous, and ability to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty will be key to success in this role.
We are seeking a candidate with:
Well-developed knowledge and understanding of the AI industry and/or ecosystem.Senior leadership experience in the AI industry (or related fields), experience of business experience during cloud, digital, or AI transformation will be highly regarded.Demonstrated leadership of high-impact programs that create scale.Outstanding leadership skills with a demonstrated commitment to wellbeing and inclusion.Proven ability to develop, influence, and drive a strategic agenda.Exemplary stakeholder engagement experience, with a focus on fostering external stakeholder relationships outside of government to achieve outcomes.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate with influence and convey complex information coherently and concisely to a range of audiences.Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, good judgement, and the ability to think strategically and logically.We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The position is offered at the SES Band 1 level. An attractive remuneration package can be negotiated for the right candidate.
