Pathology Services provides a comprehensive pathology service developed for a teaching hospital and academic environment.
The Service is a Tasmanian referral centre for molecular biology, cytogenetics, renal biopsies, immunophenotyping, stem cell transplantation and many specialised microbiological, chemical and haematologic tests, and provides an outpatient specimen collection facility through Pathology South.

The Role The Genetic Pathologist will provide a senior role in both cytogenetics and molecular pathology at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Pathology services and will:
Actively pursue improved outcomes in genetics by participating in relevant teaching, research and quality activities.
Participate in the provision of diagnostic services in molecular and cytogenetics specifically in haematological disorders at the RHH Pathology services.
Undertake quality improvement activities.

Salary Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum.
Relocation allowance.
On call allowance % of Base Salary.
All other allowances as per current Award.
Details of Appointment Permanent, part-time day work (with on-call), working 38 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Essential Requirements Holds specialist registration; or Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
Desirable Requirements Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Genetic Pathology with Fellow of Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or relevant equivalent qualification with demonstrated scope of practice to cover the areas of testing in cytogenetics and molecular performed at RHH to ensure the NPACC supervision requirements are satisfied.
