They contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program that is responsive to the needs of the school community. Guidance officers may work directly with students in addition to working with a student's teachers, school support personnel, family, other specialists or external support providers.Support offered by guidance officers includes providing advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues.You may be based at various locations within the North Queensland Region.Responsibilities IncludeAdvocate, provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment and individual student support, recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health and family issues.Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.Assist and respond to complex and challenging circumstances including student protection matters, critical incidents, mental health issues, suicide prevention and postvention support and risk management processes that may involve the development of individualised student plans, including Educational Support Plans.About YouGuidance Officers provide a unique source of expertise and experience requiring a background that includes:high level of teaching ability,advanced individual and group counselling skills, andsophisticated interpersonal and personal abilities.Mandatory RequirementsCurrent full registration as a teacher in Queensland AND one of the following:Completed coursework Masters, majoring in guidance and counselling, or an equivalent completed coursework Masters including study in the areas of psychoeducational assessment, counselling and mental health.ORGeneral or provisional registration as a psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board.ORan Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four- or five-year qualification in psychology, that at the time of completion, would enable general registration as a psychologist following completion of a board approved internship or accredited sequence of study.How To ApplyAttach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history) and;Attach a 2-page response to the "How you will be assessed" section of the attached role description.We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.Applicants need to be a current Queensland Government employee to be eligible to apply.Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).The Department of Education is a family inclusive workplace.
