Gain a broad experience of public sector accounting, audit and assurance through work with a unique and diverse client base of large and small agencies, and engagements of varying complexity.
Several vacancies are open.
Duties across these opportunities are as follows: APS4 Undertaking financial statement audits individually or as part of a team in accordance with an approved plan.
Documenting the auditee accounting system to identify key controls.
Carrying out audit tests and documenting test results.
Drafting reports that are credible, reflect sound judgement and demonstrate evidence gathering techniques.
Contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of client relationships.
Assisting in the planning of audits and drafting of audit strategies.
Undertaking priority setting and monitoring of workflow.
Liaising with stakeholders across the Australian Government sector and representing the Department.
APS5 Undertake financial statement audits individually or as part of a team in accordance with an approved plan.
Maintain and enhance client agency relationships.
Provide a high level of assistance in the conduct of audits including: Documenting the auditee accounting system to identify key controls.
Carrying out audit tests and documenting test results.
Drafting reports that are credible, reflect sound judgement and demonstrate evidence gathering techniques.
Contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of client relationships.
Assisting in the planning of audits and drafting of audit strategies.
Identifying work priorities and monitoring workflow.
APS6 Lead and manage a small team to deliver low/medium risk audit services.
Conduct financial statement audits on complex and higher risk audit services.
Liaise with stakeholders across the Australian Government sector and represent the Department.
Help maintain and enhance client agency relationships.
Plan audits and design audit strategies.
Manage budgets and work allocations.
Discuss findings with client agencies and prepare reports that are credible and evidence-based and reflect sound judgement.
Supervise a team, reviewing performance and providing feedback.
Mentor, coach, and train staff.
EL1 Lead and manage a team to deliver complex, moderate to high-risk and strategically important audit services.
Exercise strategic resource management and allocate work in line with team priorities.
Plan and investigate audits and design audit strategies.
Prepare audit reports.
Manage audit projects from end to end.
Ensure quality control.
Formulate and contribute to the development of strategic solutions, operational plans and work plans.
Liaise with stakeholders across the Australian Government sector and represent the Department.
Manage and develop a high-performing team through sound leadership.
Review staff performance and provide regular, meaningful feedback.
APS6 Assistant Audit Manager (Non Ongoing) Provide operational support to end-to-end delivery of internal audits while working collaboratively with the agencies internal audit service provider.
Assist with audit related business/process improvement initiatives and contribute to the provision of advice and assurance support to management on matters of governance and practice management.
Develop and support key internal and external relationships, including managing stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.
Support innovation and uphold continued improvement approach towards delivery of Audit and Assurance services, including review and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
Draft strategic reports and briefing papers on complex issues for presentation to committees.
Monitor, action and assign items and tasks from group email inboxes, as per business rules.
Make and communicate decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures.
May be required to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, including the development of team members at lower classifications, building team capacity and encouraging career development.
EL1 Audit Manager (Non Ongoing) Support the Chief Audit Executive in maintaining effective Internal Audit and Assurance governance arrangements to ensure compliance with the Internal Audit Charter and legislative obligations.
Supervise and collaborate with service providers and key stakeholders to deliver internal audits.
Provide specialist advice, guidance and report on matters relating to assurance including, the conduct of reviews and compliance with the Commonwealth framework and legislation.
Provide analysis and judgement on complex issues and make significant contribution to the management, preparation and coordination of policy formulation and/or project management.
Lead and manage a team to ensure high quality outputs, including building team capability to maintain a high level of expertise and encouraging career development.
Develop and actively manage key internal and external relationships, including collaborating with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
Provide high quality and timely advice internally and externally, including guidance and reporting to Branch leadership and the Senior Executive cohort including, Executive Leadership Team and relevant Committees in relation to section/Branch functional responsibilities.
Make and communicate decisions using professional judgement, evaluating risks and in the context of a complex and changing environment.
The successful candidates will have the following: Well-developed accounting and/or auditing skills.
Strong research and analytical skills.
The ability to translate complex information for a non-technical audience.
A strong track record in project management.
The ability to communicate effectively to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
