Katherine, Katherine & Northern Australia NT Katherine Town Council is the Municipal Council for the town of Katherine, located in the Northern Territory.
Often called the 'Crossroads of the North' because of its location, Katherine is the fourth largest town in the Northern Territory and is located 312km south-east of Darwin on the banks of the Katherine River.
Katherine Town Council delivers Municipal Services to the Katherine Community, including providing Library services, Airport Management, Waste & Recycling, Roads & Infrastructure, Cemetery, Animals and Regulatory Services, Community events, and more! Katherine Town Council is a small organisation of approximately 65 employees that work harmoniously together to ensure Council delivers friendly and efficient services to the residents of Katherine.

About the Position Council is currently seeking an experienced Financial Accountant who will be responsible for the provision of specialised financial services including the preparation, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of Council's financial position in accordance with the Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government Legislation.
The role will act as 2 IC to our Finance Manager and be an important part of the Finance Team.
You'll mentor our Finance Officers and build financial literacy throughout the organisation through the creation of fit-for-purpose financial reports.
You'll be responsible for preparing and maintaining our long-term financial plan including income, cash flows, and capital works program, and ensuring compliance with the financial reporting requirements of Council's grants and funding agreements.
About the Person This role offers opportunities to make changes to current systems and processes, so we are looking for a qualified accountant who seeks to improve accuracy and efficiency.
You'll also be a great communicator who can explain reports and budgets to people who don't have the same level of financial acumen.
You'll be a team player who can provide assistance to the Finance Team and have the ability to work with staff across all areas of Council.
