About the roleAn academic sessional makes a substantial contribution to the teaching program, particularly at the undergraduate level. The position requires preparation and coordination of tutorials and simulation laboratories, consultation with students, assessment marking and attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinator/Program Coordinator. The primary purpose of an academic sessional is to successfully run and manage their assigned tutorials or laboratories within the discipline area.
The School seeks expressions of interest from experienced Academics or Clinicians with tertiary teaching experience, who have a passion for teaching. Teaching opportunities are available on a sessional basis in the Bachelor of Nursing Program and in association with our Postgraduate Programs.
We are looking for academic sessional staff with subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Human anatomy & functionHealth and well-beingPharmacology and pharmacotherapeuticsLegal and ethical nursingNursing practice and skills developmentComplex care and palliation, health promotion, illness prevention and public healthCritical careMental health nursingResearch and evidence-based practiceNursing leadership and governanceKey ResponsibilitiesConduct lectures/theoretical tutorials and/or simulation laboratories to the standard of the Faculty. This includes preparing a brief lesson plan in line with the weekly learning objectives and facilitating informed group discussions relating to the lecture and weekly readings.Consultation with students in relation to readings, weekly topics and assessment.Marking and providing feedback relating to assessment activities as set out by the Course Coordinator/Program Coordinator.Attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinator/Program Coordinator.Manage short-term extension requests in line with University policy.Identify students at risk by thorough tutorial attendance recording.Other duties as identified by the line manager or the National Deputy Head of School.Comply with policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.Qualifications, skills & experienceBachelor of Nursing or equivalentRegistered Nurse (Div. 1) in AustraliaPostgraduate qualifications in Nursing or education is desirable. TEQSA and ANMAC require any academic teaching into the undergraduate nursing program to have an Australian Quality Framework degree level higher than the program they are teaching in.Knowledge and understanding of current scholarship and/or professional practice in the relevant discipline.Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.Ability to deliver quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes including online delivery.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to foster high levels of collegiality and ability to empathise with students.Proven ability to assess priority of tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines, in a busy education environment.Previous experience working in the tertiary education sector is desirable.How to applyPlease apply online with a resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
