The Extended Day Surgery Unit has multiple positions available for the right candidates. The Peri-Operative Unit at Canberra Hospital consists of a Day of Surgery Admissions (DoSA) Unit, 22 Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialties, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), and a 12 bed Extended Day Surgery Unit (EDSU) together with several out of areas procedural/invasive specialty areas.
The Extended Day Surgery Unit (EDSU) provides care for pre and post-operative DSU and EDSU patients. The DSU patients require a minimal stay before same-day discharge, and the EDSU patients require overnight post-operative care. The DoSA unit provides pre-operative assessment and preparation for patients presenting for surgery on the day of admission. Both units are managed and staffed as one identity, and nursing staff are expected to work in both areas.
