We are additionally accountable for the Data and Digital services and strategy of the Branch, in alignment with corporate ICT practices.The key duties of the position include:As the Software Engineering and Development Manager, you will provide strategic technical leadership and champion the evolution of modern engineering practices within our Section. You will guide and mentor a small, specialized engineering team, ensuring they deliver high-quality solutions that align with business objectives and meet customer needs.In partnership with the Senior Technical Lead and Platforms Manager, you will focus on people-oriented leadership, fostering collaboration across teams and advocating for best practices both within and beyond the organization. You will play a key role in resourcing effectively and nurturing the development of the skills and capabilities required to meet both current and future demands.With a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and agile project management, you will lead efforts to adopt iterative, value-driven ways of working, enhancing team capabilities and ensuring a high-performance culture.In this role you will:Support the Section Leader in providing strategic direction and guidance to a multi-disciplinary engineering team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and driving team performance.Consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive customer-focused outcomes.Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, methodologies, and tools.Mentor team members, manage resources, and champion a positive, high-performance culture.Oversee section priorities and deliverables by developing and implementing work plans for key areas, assigning tasks, and ensuring adequate resource allocation to meet objectives.Contribute to the identification and implementation of systems improvement initiatives.Champion best practices and foster a culture of collaboration and excellence and ensure governance standards are maintained.To be successful in the role you will:Be proactive and autonomous, with the ability to identify potential issues or areas for improvement to then inform the Platform Manager and Technical Lead on recommendations.Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in day-to-day activities.Be comfortable working in a cross-discipline and distributed team.Be a strong communicator and a capable leader.Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualificationsA minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in AWS environments, utilising Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, and leading technical teams to deliver complex solutions; experience with Kubernetes and security frameworks (ISM, E8) is a distinct advantage.A strong technical understanding of software development, including associate frameworks and best practices; agile project management experience a distinct advantage.Highly developed communication and collaboration skills.Strong analytical skills and experience in iterative delivery methodologies (i.e. DevOps).Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to deliver technology solutions aligned with organizational strategy.Are you unsure about applying?Did you know that a Hewlett Packard internal report found that men apply for jobs when they meet an average of 60 per cent of the job requirements?
