This team is dedicated to improving the software engineering experience and customer journey. The team builds and supports software applications for internal users like lenders and assessors, as well as for our customers. The Digital Mortgage Team values knowledge sharing, documentation of best practices, and a commitment to keeping our applications at the forefront of the industry. Focus is on maintaining a well-established software architecture and protecting our codebases through extensive testing.
Your Key focuses will include;
Develop: Build web applications for Westpac's mortgage services, working on both frontend and backend development.Frontend: Develop codebases in a micro-frontend architecture, ensuring each module operates independently.Backend: Handle and distribute data efficiently to frontend applications, maintaining a robust codebase to ensure service reliability for our customers.Document: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation to share knowledge and prevent repeat issues.Test: Ensure high code quality through unit testing and support the QA team with Java automation scripts.Review: Participate in code reviews, fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement.Innovate: Contribute to proof-of-concept projects, bringing innovative ideas to the team. You should have project or portfolio experience in frontend/backend development for web or mobile applications. You will be a passionate individual and love to work collaboratively as part of a team environment and be a proactive problem solver. You will have proficiency in modern programming languages and libraries such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
To be considered for this position you will need the following skills/experiences:
Minimum 5 years hands-on experience on Java. Strong Java skill is required for this role.Minimum 3 years hands-on experience on Spring/Spring BootGreat understanding of Java OOPS & entity relationship managementHands-on experience in Hibernate, Junit, Maven/Gradle, GIT, JIRAGeneral awareness of Java design patternsMinimum 2 years' experience in any RDBMS.A good understanding of designing database objects (Table, Index, partitions, constraint)Excellent verbal and written communication skillsCollaborative team playerKnowledge of system development life cycle.Knowledge of applications support and developmentAbility to work independently or within a team frameworkStrong time management, workload management, and organisational skills Desirable skills include: OOP Knowledge: Familiarity with modern object-oriented programming languages (Java, C#, Python).Testing: Experience with unit testing in JavaScript (Jest).Microservices: Knowledge of scalable and performant RESTful microservices.Frameworks: Experience with the Next.js framework for React.State Management: Familiarity with React's global state management tools like Redux, Zustand, React Query, or others.
