About the Role The primary function of the Employee Counsellor (Wellbeing Officer) is to provide culturally safe, trauma informed and uniquely tailored counselling and wellbeing support to SAC FVPLS employees, according to their needs.
The Counsellor will seek to: Mitigate the risk and impact of vicarious trauma on FVPLS staff; Support a healthier workforce; Give staff an outlet to discuss issues before they escalate to Human Resources Department level grievances; and Ultimately improve the quality of services provided to clients.
About You You are a motivated and committed person that has: A relevant qualification in mental health counselling or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years experience in delivering wellbeing support.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and sensitively with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate organizational-driven activities / initiatives / events.
Demonstrated knowledge of prevention and early intervention on the issue of mental health decline.
Demonstrated capacity to provide crisis support.
Well developed written and verbal communication skills including a good understanding of negotiation and conflict resolution skills and report writing.
Demonstrated knowledge and the skills and experience to build and maintain relationships with all employees.
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to Southern Aboriginal Corporation's values; Computer literacy; Current WA 'C' driver's licence; Provide first aid (HLTAID003), or willingness to obtain.
Whilst it is desirable for you to hold a tertiary qualification in social work, population health or a relevant human service / mental health area, it is not essential for this role.
Mandatory You must be prepared to undergo: A Prior Offender History Check.
A Working with Children Check.
Key Responsibilities Employee Support Organisational Development Reporting Travel: This position will be based in either Albany or Bunbury and will be required to work in SAC offices throughout the Great Southern, South West and Wheatbelt regions.
