The Statutory Oversight team is responsible for providing expert advice on the application of statutory processes to business areas within Comcare and acts as Comcare's liaison with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and the Commonwealth Ombudsman.
The team is responsible for receiving Public Interest Disclosures (PID) and coordinating PID investigations.
Statutory Oversight is also responsible for managing Comcare's escalated complaints and responding to subpoenas that Comcare receives.
Statutory Oversight manages Comcare's model litigant assessments and provides risk advice on an ad hoc basis on emerging risks presenting across Comcare.
The Principal Legal Adviser, Privacy is responsible for working closely with the Director Statutory Oversight and General Manager Legal Group to develop systems, templates, procedures, and manuals to ensure Comcare's compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 reforms.
The role includes developing and delivering training on any new privacy obligations and reviewing Comcare's current privacy systems and practices for efficiency and compliance, making recommendations for improvements.
The successful applicant will also be responsible for additional ad hoc project and improvement work within Statutory Oversight, which may be related to any of the Statutory Oversight team functions.
Mandatory Qualifications/Experience Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
Current unrestricted practicing certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.
Eight years or more post-admission experience as a legal practitioner.
