The Role
Our region is in the midst of the most consequential strategic realignment since the Second World War. In such circumstances, it has never been more important for the Defence strategic centre to employ a wide and diverse array of talents. Your contributions could help to solve some of the most pressing national security problems facing Australia today.

The Strategy, Policy, and Industry (SP&I) Group is keen to explore opportunities for public servants from all backgrounds. Our work encompasses an array of policy and program development and management roles that will enable you to utilise your abilities to the utmost – and develop new ones that will enrich your future prospects. 

Examples of the impact you could make include:

working with our Pacific partners to improve regional securitygathering government and open-source data to analyse applications to advise whether activities will affect Australia's national interestsPreparing the Minister to conduct talks with international counterparts on Defence strategic policies or military engagementWorking with the Australian Defence Force to provide policy guidance for operations. $115,899 - $130,733 (plus Super)Canberra - ACT

Our Ideal Candidate
An ideal candidate for a SP&I policy role should possess a strong background in research and analysis, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and practiced leadership and people skills. They should also demonstrate critical thinking abilities, sound judgement with an innovative approach to problem solving, and the capacity to collaborate and develop strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
