The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare.
As an Agency, we support more than , participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability.
For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need.
The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaitsWe are looking for highly motivated professionals with expertise in accessible communications to join the NDIA's Internal Communications Branch as EL1 Assistant Director Accessible Communication, Strategy, Policy and Standards and EL1 Assistant Director Accessible Communications Delivery and Performance.

The Internal Communications Branch provides strategic communications advice to support the NDIA to deliver the NDIS.
It is responsible for development and implementation of multi-channel communications and engagement strategies to support key initiatives across the NDIA and for tailoring messaging to the right audience.
The Accessible Communications Team sits in the Internal Communications Branch.
The team will become accessible communication thought leaders and champion the uptake of accessible communications within the Agency.
Team members will be collectively responsible for building Agency accessible communications knowledge and capability through best practice and evidence-based research, developing and embedding agreed minimum communication standards, delivering accessible communications training, managing procurement of translation services and undertaking in-house translation of communications into accessible formats.Where you can add valueEL1 Assistant Director Accessible Communication, Strategy, Policy and Standards The EL1 Assistant Director Accessible Communication, Strategy, Policy and Standards is responsible for developing accessible communications strategy, standards, policies, systems and processes aligned with the National Disability - Strategy Standards, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2) and NDIA minimum standards of accessible communications.
You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of tasks that support the NDIA to be an accessible and inclusive employer, including but not limited to: Managing continuous improvement of key program deliverables including ongoing review and update of accessible communication policies, Agency standards, information, guidance and learning resources.Leading the development and delivery of inclusive accessibility training, face-to-face and online in-house workshops, improving the quality of communications products and uplifting the NDIA's accessible communications capability.Defining and testing current and emerging accessible communications solutions using various accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies.Developing, implementing and evaluating internal organisational-wide communications and engagement campaigns focused on accessibility practices.
EL1 Assistant Director Accessible Communications Delivery and Performance The EL1 Assistant Director Accessible Communications Delivery and Performance is responsible for developing effective and efficient service delivery processes aligned with the National Disability - Strategy Standards, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2) and NDIA minimum standards of accessible communications.
You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of tasks that support the NDIA to be an accessible and inclusive employer, including but not limited to: Leading the delivery of the Agency's internal translation capability, supporting the creation of accessible print, design, digital, tagging, Easy Read, plain English and other accessible communication products.Leading and managing procurement activities, supporting the external translation of the Agency's communications products into accessible formats.Managing continuous improvement of key deliverables including quality service delivery standards, contractual arrangements, measuring performance, prioritising and addressing requests for quality accessible communication support and services in an efficient and timely manner.Supporting the development and delivery of high quality and innovative accessible and inclusive communication materials that improve the quality of communications products within the NDIA.

Knowledge of assistive technologies, e.g.
JAWS, NVDA or Dragon is desirable as well as extensive experience with Easy Read writing, editing and translation.Working at the NDIA, it is essential you have a positive contemporary attitude to people with disability along with a high level of understanding and knowledge of disability and its impact on individuals.

We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
