Location: Sutherland Shire NSW Initially Permanent Part time We are seeking an: Ecologist with one to two years' experience working in the field Someone willing to learn and develop their skills Someone who is looking for a flexible working environment Someone with flora identification skills About Lesryk Environmental Pty Ltd ('Lesryk') : Lesryk is an environmental consultancy firm that has been operating throughout NSW for over 25 years. Our company primarily undertakes work at the request of State and Local Government Departments, these conducted at a range of localities and in various environments. Lesryk is well respected in the industry, the majority of our work based on 'word of mouth' referrals. The Role: Under the supervision, and in the company of, one of our senior staff (or as part of a team), you will be expected to conduct site inspections, and produce reports that meet our client's expectations. These studies may entail a flora or fauna survey of a particular site, obtaining information required to produce a Review of Environmental Factors, or undertaking site pre-clearing/clearing supervision inspections. As your skills develop, you may be required to independently survey a site and produce a report for submission to the Director for review and approval prior to release to our clients. For some of the projects Lesryk is involved with, we do deploy equipment such as SongMeters, echolocation detectors, infrared cameras, hairtube traps and so forth. As part of a team, you will be required to establish and collect these and either analyse the information obtained or organise the submission of these to applicable specialists. Lesryk conducts nocturnal surveys as part of fauna inspections. There will be opportunities to be involved with these. Training in all of the above will be provided, as will on-site supervision and support. There is an expectation that, once you are comfortable with how Lesryk operates and our business model, that, in time, you will take on your own projects and clients and manage these from proposal acceptance to final document submission. Working as a team to meet our client's project expectations. Conducting of site inspections in the company of senior staff. Identification of flora and fauna species with a willingness to develop your skills in regards to these. Documenting your findings. Preparing applicable reports based on templates prepared by State Government Departments. Preparing figures suitable for inclusion in peer reviewed reports. GIS capabilities to achieve these, or be willing to learn, essential. Producing a report that complies with applicable State and Federal Environmental Legislations. Selection Criteria: To be a successful applicant you will need the following qualifications/attributes: Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or similar One to two years' experience with a consultancy firm or similar organisation An understanding of the State and Federal Environmental Legislation, particularly application of the Assessment of Significance and Significant Impact Guidelines Botanical skills, including knowledge of Plant Community Type identification NSW driver's licence Willingness to work and travel as part of team into the field for up to five days Willingness to learn and develop your ecological skills and knowledge Ability to prepare reports using standard software packages (i.e. Microsoft) Good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to produce reports and applicable correspondence. 'White Card' – General Induction for Construction Work in NSW First aid certification 4wd experience/training Ability to drive a manual vehicle Knowledge of threatened fauna, their habitat and management.
