Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service (DATS) - Caseworker/FacilitatorLocation: Newcastle, Maitland & Hunter NSW
The Alcohol and Other Drugs Caseworker / Group Facilitator will provide practical assistance and support to clients exiting from correctional facilities and/or Alcohol and Other Drugs inpatient and rehabilitation units.
This role offers a quality service and a proactive, collaborative approach to the achievement of identified goals for those participating in the service. The worker will have a primary role in providing case management and facilitating AOD groups, developing, and monitoring individual case plans. These plans will include building family and community linkages and assistance with achieving daily living skills and better outcomes. This position will facilitate AOD groups and address criminal behaviours. The position will promote, encourage, facilitate, and support effective information provision and referral to recovery activities which support and/or assist clients to maintain their wellbeing.
The worker will be part of a close-knit team that provides a range of different post-care supports and services for clients that have left residential or day rehabilitation programs and correctional centres. The position will assist to secure suitable accommodation and employment, education, or training opportunities, accessing Centrelink, housing, and Parole. The other major focus of the role is around addressing potential social isolation. This is a fast-paced person-centred approach environment, so being flexible and having the ability to adapt to changing situations is a must; every day is different.
This position will work closely with other staff (including volunteers) who offer Transitional Supported Accommodation, Chaplaincy support, and Work Development Order services.

Drug & Alcohol, Community Services, Criminology, Psychology, or similar qualifications or demonstrated experience and knowledge working with people from Corrections, Alcohol and Drug or Family and Community Services.Demonstrated ability to engage and work with people and families who are caught up in the criminal justice or AOD system.Demonstrated understanding of Case Management principles.An understanding of the issues pertaining to the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the criminal justice and AOD recovery systems.A commitment to the Samaritans values of Compassion, Integrity, and Justice.A commitment to the principles and practice of cultural competence.The ability to work both individually and as part of a team.Well-developed IT skills with a demonstrated ability to work across several different databases, computer programs, and data entry portals.Demonstrated above-average written and verbal communication skills.All Samaritans employees require a Drivers Licence, WWCC, undergo a functional assessment, undergo a National Police check & hold a current First Aid Certificate.Who we are?
