What you'll be doing
The ISLHD Drug and Alcohol Service deliver a range of treatment and support services for people encountering problems with their alcohol or substance use and their families and carers.
The ISLHD Whole Family Team provides high quality care to families to ensure the provision of evidence based interventions and optimal health outcomes consistent with ISLHD policies, procedures, standards, relevant legislation, and the NSW Health Code of Conduct. The Whole Family Team provides specialist clinical drug and alcohol and mental health services to families where there are also existing child protection concerns. These complex families often have co-occurring drug and alcohol and mental health issues, domestic violence, social disadvantage and other physical health and social issues.
The Whole Family Team Drug and Alcohol Senior Social Worker works intensively and assertively with families to assist in managing their mental health and drug and alcohol issues and developing the skills necessary to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria  Social Work degree and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), including the ability to demonstrate a practical application of the AASW Code of Ethics. Extensive post graduate experience in the drug and alcohol field. Extensive specialist psycho-social knowledge of children and families, particularly in relation to: drug and alcohol issues, child protection, domestic violence, mental illness and cultural diversity. Demonstrated extensive experience of providing drug and alcohol counselling, and the development and facilitation of group programs. Demonstrated high level ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing, and proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated competence in the use of electronic information systems. Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and manage stressful situations; ability to work unsupervised and apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel or critical nature. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share research, quality improvement activities and service evaluation processes with other staff and demonstrated capacity to provide clinical supervision.
