The Out of Home Care (OOHC) Health Pathway was established in 2010 to improve health outcomes for children and young people in statutory OOHC in NSW.  The OOHC Health Pathway is a joint initiative of the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and NSW Health aimed at ensuring that every child or young person entering statutory OOHC receives timely and appropriate health, assessment, planning, services and ongoing review of their health needs.  Research indicates that children and young people in OOHC have increased levels of unmet health need, compared with their peers. A child or young person's experience of abuse and trauma prior to entering care can significantly impact on their physical, developmental, and psychological health and wellbeing. The MLHD OOHC Coordinator will provide a coordination, leadership and support function across MLHD to improve health responses to children and young people entering or in OOHC. The position will coordinate referrals and assessment outcome reports for children and young people referred to the health pathway. The position will act as a liaison and resource person to support staff and services and other key stakeholders with their responsibilities in the implementation of the MLHD OOHC Health Assessments Pathway and the NSW Health Clinical Guidelines for health assessment of children and young people in OOHC.  Discover Work-Life Balance in Your New Home.
