Domestic & Family Violence Support Worker In Emergency DepartmentsUnder general direction from DAIWS Team Leader, the Domestic and Family Violence Support worker will apply a high level of knowledge and skills to ensure a coordinated approach to extend DAIWS' services to vulnerable women accessing emergency medical care as a result of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).
DAIWS aims to provide holistic, evidence-based, culturally sensitive and strength-based care for individuals experiencing DFSV.
Victim survivors will have access to specialist care including after hours to empower individuals to have safe options which can lead to lasting recovery and support emotional well-being.
Ensuring they receive intensive support that addresses their complex needs in a culturally safe and trauma-informed manner.
This role has been developed in response to funding to ensure staff working in the Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospital Emergency Department caring for victim survivors experiencing domestic, sexual and family violence comply with Domestic and Family Violence NT Health Policy and NT Health clinical guidelines for identifying and responding to domestic and family violence policies.
During ED presentation, an assessment of the victim survivors' current situation using evidence-based and validated processes and tools will be completed as soon as practical.
This assessment will inform the victim-survivors' future safety planning.
Demonstrated experience in this field of work is essential, as well as a demonstrated capacity to offer immediate debriefing and wellbeing support, liaise with medical personnel, and have a practical understanding and application of the Risk Assessment and Management Framework unique to the Northern Territory and the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework. A trauma-informed client-focused approach is to be used.
The applicant will possess a grounded knowledge of Aboriginal ways of being, knowing and doing as the basis for adapting/shaping therapeutic approaches to suit the needs of clients from a range of Aboriginal cultural, spiritual, and social contexts.
