Join us as Tasmania's first Disability Commissioner The Tasmanian Government has passed historic new legislation creating the first Disability Commissioner for Tasmania. This will be an independent statutory appointment to advance and safeguard the human rights of people with disability and progress the full and effective inclusion of people with disability.
For over two years the Tasmanian Government consulted and worked alongside Tasmanians with disability to ensure their voices and experiences guided and informed the creation of the legislation and the role of the Disability Commissioner to create a safer and more inclusive Tasmania for people living with disability.
The Disability Commissioner will be a person with disability who will exercise all their functions and the range of powers in the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024 including:
upholding the human rights expressed in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Australia's Disability Strategy;investigating violence against, and the abuse, neglect, coercion and exploitation of, people with disability;raising awareness in the community about matters in relation to the rights of people with disability.Who we're looking for This is a unique opportunity for an individual who identifies as having a disability, and has:
