Directors - Comcover Claims & Discretionary Payments Branch (Multiple)Commercial Group / Risk, Insurance and Discretionary Payments Division / Comcover Claims & Discretionary Payments Branch ABOUT THE TEAMS Claims (Comcover) The Comcover Claims team is responsible for managing claims against the Commonwealth that are covered by Comcover. Comcover is the Australian Government's self-insurance scheme which covers around 170 entities for a wide range of insurable losses, including liability and property. A key function of the Claims team is managing various stakeholder relationships, together with the management of claims including significant claims (as defined under the Commonwealth Legal Services Directions 2017), which are high profile litigation matters that may involve sensitive legal, political or policy issues. Discretionary Payments The Discretionary Payments team is responsible for managing applications under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) for act of grace payments, set-off and waivers of Commonwealth debts. The team is also responsible for the Scheme for Compensation for Detriment caused by Defective Administration (CDDA Scheme). A key function of the Discretionary Payments teams is managing the assessment of requests under the PGPA Act, including consultation with agencies, ensuring procedural fairness to applicants, making decisions as a delegate of the Minister and ensuring applicants are provided clear reasons for decisions. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY Both the Claims and Discretionary Payments teams manage sensitive and complex claims with strong engagement across Government agencies. As the Director in either team, you will need to demonstrate strong leadership and management capabilities with an ability to provide clear and concise advice to Finance executive, Government agencies and Ministers. The role requires well demonstrated strategic and critical thinking with an ability to understand broader Commonwealth legal risk and policy considerations. As a steward within Finance, you will need to demonstrate your ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including with legal service providers and agencies.
