Director of Studies (DoS) Canberra, Australia About the role
The Director of Studies (DoS) at UCC plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of students, primarily focusing on delivering high-quality teaching and learning outcomes in the English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) program. The success of the ELICOS program, through the leadership and management of educational delivery, administration and student support, including:
industry-leading standards of quality in teaching and learning
positive surveys of student satisfaction
satisfying the requirements of the regulatory environment (the ELICOS National Code, the ESOS Act.)
meeting agreed KPI and financial parameters
Reporting to the College Director and Principal, the DoS will have direct line responsibility for the performance of all English educational staff in ELICOS. With other College managers and directors, the DoS will be responsible for the development and maintenance of an industry-leading working environment, able to attract and retain the best staff, and for best practices in teaching, learning and student support to maximise student satisfaction and retention. Additionally, the role involves engaging in continuous professional development, participating in UCC activities, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of their field to ensure that teaching strategies reflect current academic standards and industry practices.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Academic leadership and management of ELICOS and/or other language programs
Oversees the highest standard of English educational provision and services for clients
Contributes to the professional standing of UCC as a centre of excellence by developing and maintaining effective relationships, alliances and networks related to the provision of programs and services
Ensures the most effective and efficient management of English resources by overseeing the efficient administration of English operations
Selection Criteria and Qualifications:
DELTA/Post-Graduate Diploma/MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics, or equivalent
5 years relevant ELT experience, with at least 2 in education management and financial management
Detailed working knowledge of English Australia, ESOS Act and other ELT industry regulatory frameworks and an understanding of university language centres and associated policy
Understanding and experience in undertaking a variety of teaching methods to deliver curriculum in the classroom
Ability to interact effectively and work productively and cooperatively with a variety of stakeholders, including students.
A keen attention to detail and excel in initiative, time management, prioritisation, and completing tasks efficiently
Significant previous experience in line management of academic and professional staff and understanding of best practices in people and culture and WHS
Highest standards of written and spoken communication (i.e. producing reports and business proposals for internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors)
Committed to enhancing the market position, reputation, and performance of UCC
A commitment to staff development and the ability to work within a dynamic and complex work environment
Understanding of, and a commitment to, adhering to all legislative requirements as they apply to a Third-Party Provider
Well-developed marketing and entrepreneurial skills and the ability to make decisions that will promote the program's courses locally and overseas
A current and valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card, which the appointee must maintain throughout their employment in this position
Extensive business development knowledge, skills and experience
Experience in pathway programs to tertiary education in Australia and/or overseas
Experience in project management
