Exciting Role – Temporary for 12 months from January 2025, Full-time, Herston | Provide expert clinical and strategic leadership to manage a comprehensive policy, legislative and management framework to address the public health risks associated with the emergence and transmission of communicable diseases that pose a current and future risk to the health of the Queensland population.
The role
This position provides expert clinical and management leadership in public health nursing, overseeing state-wide initiatives for the prevention and control of communicable diseases. The role requires advanced public health nursing expertise to coordinate, develop, and direct policies, protocols, and standards in line with Queensland Health's values and service quality standards. You will provide strategic leadership in the development of public health systems, surveillance, and outbreak management, ensuring innovative and evidence-based interventions address key health threats, such as antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis, and rheumatic heart disease. This position also requires leading collaborative efforts with national and international partners to mitigate long-term public health risks and enhance service delivery models.
In this role, you will lead and manage public health nursing services, focusing on quality improvement and workforce capacity building. You will also oversee the implementation of key public health strategic plans and performance indicators, ensuring alignment with Queensland Health's strategic direction and the Nurses and Midwives Award 2015. Additionally, you will provide expert advice on service models, lead research initiatives, and ensure preparedness for communicable disease outbreaks and emergent threats. You are accountable for the fiscal management and integrity of allocated budgets, ensuring sustainable resource use to support high-quality public health outcomes.
The successful person
To excel in this role, you will need a proven ability to drive state-wide strategic change by leading quality and service improvement initiatives and providing professional oversight. You should also have experience in offering strategic and operational leadership to large and diverse nursing or multidisciplinary teams.
Furthermore, you will need to demonstrate expertise in guiding the conceptualisation, development, and application of solutions to complex and emerging issues, enhancing state-wide health practices and policies. A thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, and standards is essential, along with a solid grasp of contemporary human resource management practices, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity, and anti-discrimination matters.
