Who we areThe Plant Health Policy Branch provides a national focal point for plant biosecurity issues within Australia and has responsibility for the national leadership in managing Australia's plant health. The work of the branch underpins biosecurity and helps to open new, and maintain existing, domestic and international markets for Australian plant industries. This is achieved by providing focus for national plant biosecurity activities, preparing for and coordinating national responses to plant pests and exotic weeds, promoting reform of the plant biosecurity system, improving national plant health capacity and capabilities, domestically improving national surveillance and diagnostic capability and capacity, and assisting the department to meet national and international obligations and influencing plant health policies.The National Engagement Section coordinates and facilitates engagement in national plant health fora (Plant Health Committee and its subcommittees) and supports the Australian Government's leadership in these fora. The section also coordinates strategic planning for building national plant biosecurity capability and the delivery of projects funded through the Plant Biosecurity and Response Reform and Priority Pest and Disease Planning and Response administered programs. It manages plant biosecurity communications and engagement activities as well as supporting divisional financial management.The Job
The Director - National Engagement will have an impact by working closely and collaboratively with national stakeholders to foster and facilitate a strong national plant biosecurity system. The work is diverse, covering national strategy and policy, program implementation, national committee functions, communications and engagement, and finance and procurement/grant management.The duties of the role include:Managing a team of secretariat staff that provide high level support and governance to national plant biosecurity committees.Managing the administered funding programs, including procurement, grant and other financial arrangements processes, as well as high quality advice on relevant Australian Government financial and legislative requirements.Managing plant biosecurity communication and engagement activities, including promoting the role of the Australian Chief Plant Protection Officer, the importance of national plant biosecurity and the work of the branch.Overseeing the division's financial and resource management.Facilitating a national strategic approach to plant biosecurity activities and supporting implementation of these through the work of the branch, the administered programs and national committees.Managing, developing and reviewing communications including briefings, committee papers, communications materials and articles to a high standard that includes timely and considered advice.Responding to emerging national and departmental issues to ensure effective resolution that meets stakeholder needs and supports national biosecurity outcomes.Supporting a diverse section to deliver high quality work outputs.
