Joining the Early Childhood and Youth GroupJoining the Early Childhood and Youth Group at the Department of Education is an opportunity to work in a dynamic priority area of Government, delivering excellence in program delivery and management and improving policies across government that affect young people, alongside State and Territory Governments.
As a Director (EL2) at the Department of Education, you will lead a professional team undertaking meaningful and interesting policy development and/or program delivery work.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn the Workforce Branch, you will lead a small team responsible for policy development and analysis on pay and conditions in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector. This will include consideration of a range of policy issues including the worker retention payment program and undervaluation proceedings.
In the Quality and Inclusion Branch, you will lead a team responsible for the Inclusion Support Program which helps children with additional needs participate in early childhood education and care through tailored support and funding to services. Responsibility for managing the program involves providing informed policy advice in an exciting early years reform landscape, managing contracts and funding, stakeholder relationships, program assurance, compliance projects, strategic input, and program decisions.
The key duties of the position include:Providing strategic advice, problem solving and issues management for both internal and external stakeholders (including the Executive and Ministers), in relation to complex and potentially controversial matters.Leading strategic planning for longer term project and program initiatives which may have a department wide impact.Providing excellent leadership to a team. Implementing and promoting continuous improvement, making a positive contribution to branch and divisional culture and outcomes.Applying and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Department, including the Department's impact on the wider political and community context in which it operates.Employment ConditionsEmployment at the Department of Education is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
