Merit List/Pools and How They Will Be UsedApplicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role without the need to reapply. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months.

About the RoleThe Director Multilateral Engagement manages a small team coordinating AMSA's multilateral engagement. Some of the team's responsibilities include:
Managing the campaign for election to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2025,Developing strategic advice to advance Australia's priorities in multilateral forums,Delivering training and support for AMSA's technical delegations to multilateral forums,Implementing AMSA's international engagement strategy, andSupporting Executive and AMSA's London-based representative.This role will be responsible for developing new proposals to continue to strengthen and modernise this critical UN specialised agency.

The Key Duties of the Position Include:Skills and Experience International engagement experience, including liaison with international organisations and foreign governments,Strong communication skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds,Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to manage and develop a small team,Ability to gain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (NV1).An understanding of Australia's maritime interests would be an advantage.
