About Legal Services The Legal Services team provides high level legal and policy advice to the Minister, Director General and the senior executive team of Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. Legal Services contributes to departmental and divisional strategic and business planning, policy and development processes. About the role Are you a highly experienced legal professional with a passion for applying your expertise to foster a cohesive, prosperous, vibrant and healthy Western Australian community?DLGSC is looking for a motivated and seasoned individual to join and lead a dynamic team of Legal professionals as Director Legal Services. We have one permanent, full time (75 hrs p/f) position available.As Director Legal Services you will provide leadership and management in the delivery of high level legal and policy advice to the relevant four Ministers, the Director General and Senior Executive across the following areas:Arts, culture and creative industriesSport and recreation industriesRacing, gaming and liquor-related industry sectorsLocal government sectorCulturally and linguistically diverse communities, groups and organisationsMajor arts, culture, creative industry, sporting and recreation infrastructure projects.The right candidate will bring a wealth of experience in reviewing legislation to aid in the contribution of the Department's strategy and business planning.We are looking for someone with:Substantial post-admission experience in areas relevant to a government context including complex public and administrative law, statutory interpretation, commercial, property and regulatory matters.Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop a team to achieve high levels of performance.Demonstrated ability to undertake research, manage and provide legal advice related to complex, urgent and/or sensitive matters.High level conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills.Extensive experience in communicating clearly and confidently with a range of internal and external stakeholders.Please note you must have a Bachelor of Laws Degree, admitted to engage in legal practice in Western Australia with not less than 5 year post admission experience and must be a holder of, or be eligible to hold, a local practising certificate which is then renewed annually to be eligible for this role.Applicants with sound knowledge of the Local Government Act, Liquor Control Act and other legislation administered by the Department and/or extensive knowledge of the role, responsibilities and function of Commonwealth, State and local governments are strongly encouraged to apply.DLGSC has an incredibly wide remit and strives to have a significant impact across the entire state of Western Australia.
