The Legal team is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the company, including providing legal counsel across the organization, handling disputes, and creating and enforcing intellectual property.
Let's talk about the team: We are looking for a business-oriented, self-driven professional with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in managing in-house legal and privacy department operations. As the Director of Legal Operations, you will lead key transformation initiatives to optimize legal operations, focusing on enhancing both technology use and service delivery. Acting as a strategic change leader, you will combine vision with hands-on execution to drive accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
You will build and develop a high-performing legal operations team, define clear roles, streamline workflows, and implement best practices to meet business objectives efficiently. By leveraging data-driven insights and adopting technologies that enhance operational efficiency, you will ensure the legal function delivers proactive, high-quality support while fostering seamless collaboration across the organization.
Let's talk about the role: Strategic Leadership and Operations Management: Drive the strategic vision for legal operations in alignment with the company's broader business objectives.Build and strengthen the legal operations team by refining roles, improving collaboration, and optimizing workflows to meet evolving business needs efficiently.Lead cross-functional initiatives to build a scalable, agile legal operations function that reduces the administrative burden to lawyers.Collaborate across all practice areas of legal to identify areas for operational improvement and implement solutions to optimize efficiency.Develop a strong, service-oriented legal operations team, building capabilities that support both routine legal work and strategic business priorities.Lead change management initiatives to ensure the legal team adapts successfully to new technologies, processes, and organizational structures. Technology and Systems Integration: Lead a team that effectively supports and enhances a complex portfolio of legal applications including contract lifecycle management, e-billing, matter management, and e-discovery.Develop and communicate a clear technology roadmap, ensuring transparency and alignment with the broader legal team, while regularly updating stakeholders on progress and key milestones.Lead the evaluation, selection, implementation, and management of any new legal technology solutions to streamline operations.Foster a data-driven approach to decision-making by implementing tools and processes that provide transparency into legal metrics and performance.Oversee the digitization and automation of legal processes to enhance productivity, reduce administrative burdens, and improve legal service delivery.Understand industry benchmarking studies, legal operations trends, and stay current on solutions to provide best practices and recommendations to the Legal Team. Process Improvement and Optimization: Analyze current legal processes and workflows, identifying areas for process optimization and efficiency gains.Leverage agile methodologies in collaboration with IT to improve responsiveness, flexibility, and cross-functional dependencies.Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the legal department, ensuring the team is equipped to manage increased complexity and volume of work. Budgeting, Resource Allocation, and Vendor Management: Coordinate with Finance Business Partner to provide insights for legal budgeting, forecasting, and financial management, ensuring legal spend aligns with company objectives.Manage relationships with external vendors and outside counsel, negotiating contracts, rates, and service-level agreements to optimize value.Implement legal spend management tools to track, report, and control costs effectively. Let's talk about you: Candidates must have a minimum of 5+ years as a business/operations manager in a corporate legal department including experience with technology trends. In-house legal experience preferred.Bachelor's degree required; advanced Management degree preferred.Prior experience with developing and implementing work systems and processes related to business operations.Strong system administration management skills or background.Prior experience with regulatory compliance technologies a plus.Experience in managing and directing a team a plus.Candidate must be able to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive, "can do" attitude to the workplace and works collaboratively with other members of the Legal and Finance teams.
