The Director, Industries is the senior leader responsible for the design, development, and implementation of the state-wide Custodial Operations Industries Strategy. The position is responsible for enhancing current industry practices and for identifying innovative marketing and business growth opportunities to maximise prisoner employment and skills acquisition.
The role is also responsible for overseeing large scale commercial businesses operating in correctional environments across Queensland, and for establishing, implementing and maintaining industry standards.
Support the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations in achieving departmental objectives and provide expert operational and strategic advice regarding industry practices.Lead the design, development, implementation, and delivery of the Custodial Operations Industries Strategy.Lead the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans and associated strategies to match productive capacity with relevant market opportunities, while maintaining competitive neutrality.Develop briefings, submissions and other relevant materials for Board of Management or Ministerial consideration.Direct the development of detailed business cases and implementation plans for new business opportunities.Direct the development of industry engagement plans for targeted sectors such as construction, manufacturing, agriculture, food production, hospitality, and information technology to maximise prisoner work readiness through relevant education and employment strategies.Secure necessary work volumes to fully engage and maintain Custodial Operations Industries production capacity.Lead the development of contingency strategies to cater for loss of business productivity owing to market change or other disruptive activity.Monitor performance against existing contracts and explore additional market opportunities to increase sustainable prisoner employment levels and generate increased external revenue.Plan, supervise and manage business improvements, change programs and projects related to industries development.Oversight the performance of industry units and where necessary initiate corrective action to improve prisoner and client centric outcomes.Provide senior leadership that ensures industry and employment programs are tailored so that prisoners acquire relevant training and skills that align with identified skills demand.Oversight systemic operational decision making to ensure consistent industries processes across the state are aligned with departmental strategic objectives.Manage liaison activities that require Custodial Operations Industries input including strategies, implementation plans, reviews, and memoranda of understanding.Implement systems to ensure compliance with departmental procedures, legislative requirements, and health and safety obligations, and advise stakeholders of identified issues and proposed remedial action.Provide leadership to Industries Managers and stewardship to industries related Communities of Practice.Coach and mentor Industries Managers in their areas of responsibility.Ensure that training and professional development opportunities are provided to staff.Oversight prisoner nutrition including menu management, food production, special dietary requirements, and food quality to ensure the provision of a high-quality nutritious meal service.Provide leadership and direction over the sales to prisoners and canteen sales program so that prisoners have access to purchase a broad range of cost competitive items.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
