About the opportunity 
We are seeking an EL2 Director, Governance, Communication and Parliamentary Support to lead a small team that is accountable for enabling clarity and accountability on ASQA's strategic direction through effective management and support of ASQA's governance mechanisms and relationship with the Minister's Office, corporate engagement, and communication services. 

The Director translates strategic intent through developing and implementing a program of work and marshalling the broader resources of the agency to achieve strategic outcomes. The Director is responsible for strategic, tactical and operational deliverables necessary to support the achievement of organisational outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

enabling ASQA's vision, culture and strategic direction, and strong productive relationships that support ASQA's purpose, through:facilitating and managing ASQA's governance arrangements, and supporting continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency's system of governance,planning, developing and publishing ASQA's strategic communications, managing media activities, and supporting the CEO's internal communications objectives, andsupporting the CEO in relation to high level stakeholder engagement activities.Supporting the implementation of strategies that build trust and confidence in the regulator and the sector, including:leading management and coordination of ASQA's Ministerial and Parliamentary reporting and briefing obligations,high level liaison with the Minister's office and portfolio department's liaison officers and parliamentary teams,leading coordination of preparation of briefs to support ASQA's appearances at Senate Estimates and Parliamentary Committee hearings, andplanning and delivering continuous improvement within the Team across all areas of functional responsibility. To succeed in this role, you will have:
a demonstrated ability to successfully lead a high performing team undertaking strategic and operational communication, parliamentary and/or governance support functions, in an environment of ambiguity and complexity,an ability to apply critical and analytical thinking to information from a wide variety of sources, with excellent judgement and integrity, to provide high-quality strategic advice, briefs and reports, and to manage issues that may be sensitive and/or complex in nature,an ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build trusted relationships and partnerships, including high level ability to influence, obtain timely information and manage highly sensitive information appropriately,an understanding of the Australian Government operating environment, particularly in relation to regulation, governance, and parliamentary processes,a proven ability to apply resources to identify and manage risks proportionately and to make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions in a fast-paced and changing environment, anda demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement and lead and manage change. This position is available as an ongoing or non-ongoing opportunity. Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for an initial fixed term period of up to 12 months, with the potential to be extended further or to becoming ongoing. 

This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The merit pool may be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles within ASQA or across the APS over the next 18 months.
