Northern Water aims to provide a new, climate independent water source for the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsula regions of South Australia, enabling the growth of industries crucial to achieving net-zero goals, including the green energy and hydrogen industries. Water Scarcity is a persistent challenge in South Australia, relying heavily on the Murray Darling Basin for supply. This Northern Water project seeks to alleviate these pressures and enhance water security through strategic water infrastructure development.
Reporting to the Project Director and joining an executive team of hand-picked specialists in their respective fields, the role of Director, ESG will be a critical appointment at a vital stage of the project. You will lead the design, development and delivery of the Environmental, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) strategy and carry stewardship of sustainability capabilities for Northern Water. The largest water security project of its kind in South Australia's history, the role will work closely with all tiers of government, councils, community and traditional owners, private sector stakeholders and vendors to position Northern Water to proactively respond to all ESG and regulatory requirements.
You will have significant experience in ESG Strategy, preferably in large-scale, high-profile projects, including a detailed understanding of legislative, policy and regulatory requirements associated with ESG and sustainability. Ideally you will have existing knowledge of Infrastructure Sustainability Council, green bond or similar ESG accreditations and frameworks. A capable and consistent executive leader, you will be collaborative with your peers, ambassadorial to your stakeholders, resilient to challenges and a source of competent leadership and motivation to the broader team. Tertiary qualifications in environmental engineering, social science or policy, sustainability or a related discipline are preferred.
