Campbell ACTThe key duties of the position include:

The RoleThe Director Defence Radiation Safety & Assurance is accountable for the internal regulation of the Defence radiation safety governance framework with specific responsibility for the following:Administration of the Defence Radiation Safety Domain and its encompassing requirements, which cover radiation licences, permits, policy and duty-of-care aspects.Acting as the Radiation Safety Officer for the Defence Enterprise covering all higher level risks associated with the use, possession and control of radiation sources within Defence.Manage Defence's radioactive waste and maintain a radioactive waste storage facility.Representing Defence in radiation-related cross-Agency meetings, inspections, joint ventures and activities.Representing Defence through engaging with local and international partners.Provision of both operational and strategic level advice covering ionising and non-ionising radiation within Defence.This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Within the Logistics Assurance Branch, you will manage a small team of around ten scientific and logistics staff, who provide technical advice and manage Defence source licence and radiation related inventory holdings. The Hazard Management section provides technical advice on ionising and non-ionising radiation throughout Defence and beyond. The Internal Regulation section consolidates legislated reporting, and management of sources and policy. Together these two sections form the core of your workforce. As Defence's senior Radiation Safety Officer, you also oversee the work of delegated experts within the Services and other Defence Groups. These are part of your broader team, and to be successful in the role you will need to build close and positive relationships throughout Defence and more widely throughout other Agencies.Our Ideal Candidate

They are comfortable with providing risk-based assessments within their broad sphere of technical knowledge, while also skilled at drawing on the expertise of others. Prior to commencement, successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process. As a Positive Vetting clearance is required, applicants must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.Mandatory Qualifications:
