About our team DC National Operations | Operational Coordination & Planning | Tactical Capability | Digital Forensic Operations The Technical Support to Operations Branch (TSOB) provides national tactical and technical services and support to the Australian Border Force (ABF) in its mission to help build a safe, secure and prosperous Australia.
In particular, TSOB deploy specialists from the National Covert Physical Surveillance, Digital Forensics, Digital Device Examination and the Detector Dog capabilities in an effort to support ABF core functions and associated operational priorities.
TSOB works with other operational commands to ensure the most appropriate tactical capabilities are deployed to achieve the most effective operational outcomes for the ABF and law enforcement partners.
The Digital Forensic Operations section within TSOB comprises two national capabilities being, Digital Forensics and Digital Device Examination Coordination.
These capabilities receive tasking's from both operational ABF commands and our law enforcement partners.
Both capabilities are managed nationally to ensure consistency and to align prioritisation with the ABF's operational priorities.
Please visit our website for more information about the Department of Home Affairs or Australian Border Force Our ideal candidate Our ideal candidate will have: A strong interest or background in digital forensics and IT A strong interest and background in enforcement and/or investigations Possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills and experience, noting these roles provide specialist capabilities to internal and external clients on an ongoing basis The ability to actively engage with a range of stakeholders throughout the planning and operational phases of enforcement activity to ensure successful capability delivery Self motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Duties and responsibilities Under direction, perform the following tasks and activities: Use specialist Digital Forensic methods, software and hardware to identify, image, analyse and present electronic material in a format that enables it to be used in bringing an investigation to an appropriate conclusion Provide or produce accurate, professional, expert digital forensic advice, statements and reports to investigators and internal/external stakeholders that meet high judicial standards Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including a high level of liaison with State and Commonwealth agencies including the Australian Government Solicitor, Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and peer digital forensic groups Contribute to the development and maintenance of the ABF's digital forensic capability, including policy and procedures in accordance with legislative requirements Contribute to the maintenance of a safe, healthy working environment.
As part of your daily activities you are responsible for creating complete and accurate records in accordance with the Department's Recordkeeping instructions.
Additional information The Australian Border Force (ABF) Digital Forensics (DF) team supports various operational activities, including search activities at places that are controlled by the ABF, such as airports and seaports DF also regularly deploys in support of ABF search warrants within Australia.
DF Investigators regularly undertake interstate and intrastate travel in support of operational activities and for training/conference purposes.
The ABF DF team is comprised of highly skilled specialists who provide digital forensic capability support to the whole ABF and partner agencies.
These DF Investigators identify, analyse and report on the technical aspects of data found on computers, phones and other electronic devices.
The ABF DF team conducts complex electronic device examinations and analysis.
They thereby support investigations into alleged breaches of ABF administered legislation.
and intelligence gathering activities.
Digital Forensics Investigators regularly prepare witness statements and subsequently give evidence in court.
This evidence is based on the electronic evidence they identify and collect during operational activity, and subsequently analyse.
Their testimony is considered expert evidence, which is drawn from their technical knowledge in the field of digital forensics.
DF Investigators are regionally posted; however, DF is a national operational capability.
Therefore, DF Investigators are regularly deployed both interstate and intrastate for operational purposes, sometimes at short notice.
Flexibility of work hours is sometimes required to ensure critical operational activity is supported.
However, these operations are usually notified with sufficient time to allow officers to plan and make the necessary arrangements.

Eligibility To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:   ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
