The purpose of this position is the delivery of engineering concept plans, detailed design plans and documentation for civil engineering infrastructure utilising external consultants and own design capabilities and skills. The design output achieved shall satisfactorily meet the requirements of the department's internal and external customers to prescribed and agreed Standards, Quality Assurance procedures and timeframes.
This role will see you working in consultation with internal and external stakeholders, particularly managing external consultants doing design for roads, stormwater, transport infrastructure, footpaths and other miscellaneous structures like bridges and boardwalks. Your proven experience in managing external consultants is essential, likewise your ability to analyse, question and collaborate with consultants to achieve positive outcomes for the Council. You will also need a working knowledge of Civil Engineering Design/Drafting practices, Standards and Codes of Practice in roadworks, drainage works and road signage.
You have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads of yourself and others to meet expectations. You have sound analytical and problem-solving skills and work efficiently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
Minimum qualifications include a Diploma (AQF Level 5 or above) in Civil Engineering or recognised equivalent plus relevant experience in Civil Engineering or similar. Ideally, you will have previous road infrastructure experience in Local Government, consultancy or Department of Transport and Main Roads or similar, and a demonstrated passion to make a difference to the community will see you being successful in this role.
