The Armidale School ('TAS') is a co-educational Anglican boarding and day school with a Junior School (Pre-Kindergarten to Year 5), Middle School (Year 6-8) and Senior School (Year 9-12). The School has an enrolment of approximately 680 students, including over 220 boarders.
TAS values and actively pursues individual academic performance and effort, but a TAS education is a comprehensive one, presenting every student with the experiences that create character and resilience, promote creativity, initiative and leadership and prepare them for life. We are proud of our history and traditions and membership of the GPS, yet at the same time we are liberal and progressive.
TAS staff are intrinsically involved in all aspects of the co-curricular program, allowing them to build greater understanding and rapport with each student.
Position Overview We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Deputy Principal to join the School's executive in 2025 and play a crucial role in shaping the future strategic direction of our School. A background in school leadership, a strong understanding of school operations and strategy, and the proven ability to manage operational areas such as student engagement, attendance and staff management would be advantageous. Strong analytical skills and a passion for data-driven decision-making are also essential, along with the proven ability to inspire and develop staff and students.
This role is a full-time ongoing position with a 0.8FTE time allocation for this role. The remaining 0.2FTE will be a teaching allocation.
Role Requirements Strategic LeadershipCollaborate with the Principal and leadership team to contribute to the creation and execution of the School's new strategic plan;Promulgate and promote key strategic objectives to staff, ensuring that there is understanding, engagement and participation within all levels of academic staff.Day to Day OperationsOversee and implement policies and appropriate intervention with regard to student behaviour and attendance and other day to day operational matters within the School, including areas such as Boarding and Pastoral Care.Staff Leadership and ManagementActive leadership and participation in the School's Activities Program;Guide, monitor and evaluate staff performance, succession planning, recruitment, induction and professional development;Oversee academic staff absentees;Lead and manage all staff reporting to the role;Foster an environment that empowers staff members to achieve School goals, build personal and team resilience and recognises individual growth;Promote a strong working relationship between teaching and non-teaching staff and all areas of the School to deliver strong outcomes for students, staff and the School community;Facilitate a positive and dynamic working environment for direct reports by developing a team approach ensuring open communication, transparent and effective decision-making and collaborative work practices;Address and resolve matters of sub-par performance and conduct in accordance with School policies, Codes of Conduct, procedures and values.Deputising for the PrincipalWhen required, deputise for the Principal through attendance and meetings, representing the School at events/functions, speaking and/or negotiating on their behalf, or managing the day to day requirements of the position during periods of absence.OtherAct as an ambassador of the School by leading and being actively involved in key events for parents throughout the year including Parent Teacher Interviews, Speech Day, information sessions and other School events;Other responsibilities as required by the Principal from time to time.Child Protection The Armidale School is fully committed to the protection of children and young people during all School activities and environments both within and outside of school hours.
