The Job: The Senior Manager, Data Architecture will play a key role in designing and leading the data architecture practice at Deakin and implement robust data models that support our ambitious vision for data and analytics. This is a leadership position where you will align technology with business goals, mentor a team of data professionals, and drive innovation to ensure the scalability, security, and effectiveness of our data systems. Some core responsibilities include:
Data Architecture Strategy and Practice: Develop and execute a vision to build Deakin's data architecture practice to align with business goals and support scalable growth. Team Leadership: Build, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing data architecture team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. Data Governance & Security: Implement data models and schemas that support robust data governance frameworks to ensure data privacy, integrity, and compliance with industry standards. Optimise Data Systems: Design and optimize data architectures for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency, driving operational improvements. Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with stakeholders from multiple departments to ensure data architecture solutions meet business needs and drive value. Drive Innovation: Lead the modernisation of legacy systems and promote innovative approaches to data processing and analytics. Measure Success: Define and track KPIs to demonstrate how data architecture supports business outcomes, such as improved decision-making and efficiency. Be Adaptable: Respond quickly to changing business priorities and emerging technologies, adjusting data strategies to support evolving needs and challenges. To be successful, you'll have: Postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive relevant experience in ensuring a large organisation's data assets are structured and organised to support data-driven decision-making and enhance operational efficiency. Proven experience building the practice of data architecture and managing complex data systems. A proactive problem-solving approach to address data architecture issues. Strong experience with on-prem and cloud platforms (Oracle, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Knowledge and expertise in data modelling/architecture tools (e.g. Erwin, LeanIX, Lucid). Expertise in data governance, security, and data modelling. Experience managing projects, people and budgeting. Experience in building and leading high-performing teams. Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences. A deep understanding of regulatory requirements and data architecture best practices in a large complex organisation. A flexible and adaptable approach, responding quickly to changing business priorities and emerging technologies.
