Be part of a team with the expertise and drive to succeed   Based in Melbourne , the Data Scientist is responsible for building and maintaining data science based products to deliver Shell Energy's strategy and objectives, improve our operational efficiency, and drive business growth.
The Data Scientist partners with various internal departments to work on a broad range of problems such as customer segmentation, customer churn prediction, load behaviour analysis and forecasting, demand response analysis, and energy optimisation.
Shell Energy Australia embraces the DevOps model for all capabilities, so the Data Scientist will be required to not only develop new features with ongoing support and maintenance in mind, but also to actively participate in product support and remediating technical debt, to ensure quality products and services.
The role will report to the Lead Data Scientist    With honesty, integrity and respect, you will: Work in the Advanced Analytics team and with stakeholders throughout the organisation to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions; Data extraction and acquisition from various sources, development of visual insights, analytical and statistical machine learning models to drive commercial outcomes and customer engagement; Data mining, customer insights and deep dive analysis to recommend next best solutions; Working with large data sets in SQL and Python to produce meaningful insights and recommendations; Support knowledge sharing, upskilling and self-service of data insights of various data champions within the Business; Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs; Your team of data scientists and software engineers are responsible for the operational support of data products that are deployed to production; Contribute to the implementation of data science solutions for your team, adhering to security, compliance and engineering standards and providing appropriate documentation to guide development teams and provide direction; Work with your squad to provide meaningful estimates of work effort and ensure the delivery of the work to that estimate, ensuring timely, credible and successful completion of works, escalating risks to these outcomes in a timely fashion; Train and support users on properly using data products.
Assist users with technical issues, respond to support requests, and ensure smooth adoption of new technologies; Create and maintain technical documentation, such as system configurations, user manuals, and standard operating procedures.
Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in software development and systems engineering; and  Identify opportunities to improve processes, technologies, and systems across teams to drive innovation and reduce waste.
What you'll bring Data Science Life Cycle: Experienced in one or more programming languages, software design patterns, development methodologies (such as Agile, Scrum, etc.
), version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices; Agile Delivery Experience: Experience working in an Agile Software Development environment.
This includes defining project scope, estimating work effort, allocating resources and managing stakeholder expectations to a credible plan; Cloud Computing: Experience using cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Knowledge of cloud services, deployment models, and best practices for cloud architecture and management; Proficiency in Python and data science related libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, Matplotlib, and Plotly; Demonstrated experience in the end-to-end data science pipeline, including data extraction and acquisition, data preparation and cleaning, and building models; Deep knowledge of statistical and predictive modelling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering, classification and regression techniques, and optimisation algorithms; Knowledge of the electricity market and building energy efficiency; Understanding virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM) and containerisation platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) enables efficient resource utilisation, scalability and deployment flexibility; and  Familiarity with relational databases querying (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) including database design, querying languages (e.g SQL).
