What you'll be doing As a Data Engineer at Virgin Australia, you will have an exciting role, where you have the ability to utilise your 'Data Lakehouse' (ideally Databricks) knowledge, and collaborate with a team of experts! You will be responsible for ingesting data into our modern data platform, assembling large, complex datasets and providing frameworks and services for operating on that data, enabling the business to deliver on reporting, dashboarding, marketing and advanced analytics initiatives.
This role will be reporting to the Data Platform Lead, working within a diverse team of Data Engineers, supported by data analysts and a Data Platform Architect.
The team is located in our beautiful Brisbane office, with stunning views of the Brisbane River and city. We offer a hybrid, flexible work arrangement. Please note, this role cannot be performed remotely. However, we will consider Melbourne based candidates, as we do have some other team members there.
Further responsibilities include: Develop robust data pipelines and processes in Databricks, making critical business data available to other teams Manage and optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, reliability and cost efficiency. Ingest data into our modern data platform, assemble large, complex datasets, and provide frameworks and services for operating on that data Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, such as automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide effective solutions You'll be great in this role if you have… Extensive experience as a Data Engineer Understanding of data warehousing principles including data structures, database design, modelling, metadata, dependency and workload management Experience working with cloud-based, modern data platforms and Open Source Big Data tools Exposure to our current tech stack is desirable (Databricks, AWS, DBT with extensive experience with Python, Pyspark, Terraform, SQL) Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team or independently Strong ability to knowledge-share with the team What you'll get from us We're committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):
