The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Payday Super represents a transformative opportunity to modernize the Super Guarantee (SG) system, addressing the estimated $5.1 billion in unpaid SG annually and improving retirement incomes for millions of Australians. It introduces a core requirement for employers to make super contributions to funds within seven calendar days of payday, significantly accelerating current processes.
The implementation of Payday Super involves extensive collaboration across the SG ecosystem, including employers, digital service providers, gateways, clearing houses, super funds, and the ATO. Preparations include adapting systems, workflows, and compliance practices to meet the faster pace required by the new system. Legislative changes are being developed by Treasury, while the ATO and industry stakeholders work proactively to align with upcoming requirements.
Key to this transition is the ATO's enhanced capability to match Single Touch Payroll data with super contribution reports. This allows for proactive compliance monitoring and faster intervention when employers fail to meet obligations, ensuring more timely contributions for workers. Payday Super will drive significant operational and cultural shifts within the superannuation industry, requiring readiness for faster data processing and regulatory responses.
The ATO is seeking a highly skilled Solutions Architect to lead the design and implementation of technical solutions for the Payday Super initiative. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful delivery of scalable, secure, and efficient systems to support faster superannuation processing for millions of Australians. As a Solutions Architect, you will work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements, design end-to-end technical solutions, and oversee their implementation. You will ensure that all systems align with legislative requirements, industry best practices, and program objectives.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and document end-to-end architectural solutions to meet the requirements of the Payday Super initiative. Ensure alignment of technical designs with program objectives, compliance needs, and industry standards. Design seamless integration between diverse components of the SG ecosystem, including payroll systems, clearing houses, super funds, and the ATO. Facilitate real-time data processing and reporting to support the accelerated timelines of Payday Super. Provide guidance to development teams on implementing architectural solutions. Ensure adherence to architectural principles, technical standards, and best practices. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs. Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Ensure solutions comply with legislative and regulatory requirements, including data security and privacy standards. Identify and mitigate risks associated with technical designs and implementations. Maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including diagrams, data flow, and system interactions. Provide regular updates on architecture progress to leadership and stakeholders. Skills and Experience: Proven experience as a Solutions Architect in large-scale, compliance-driven environments. Strong expertise in system integration, data architecture, and cloud-based solutions. Deep understanding of superannuation systems, payroll systems, and financial services architecture. Knowledge of data security, privacy, and compliance frameworks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to innovate and deliver scalable solutions. Experience with Single Touch Payroll systems and superannuation-related projects. Familiarity with legislative changes and public-sector IT projects. Certification in architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). HOW TO APPLY Please follow the application process carefully. You will receive emails from us with links to complete two web forms. Additionally, we will need your most recent CV, updated to highlight your suitability for this role. **NOTE**: You are not required to meet all the Key Responsibilities and Skills and Experience criteria.
