Your ContributionThe Cultural Mentor Officer is responsible for the provision of day to day support for at-risk, vulnerable youth.
The position will demonstrate strategies for young people to address behaviours, build and strengthen family and community connections, and work to achieve a sense of belonging.Key Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesAdvocate and work towards achieving the best outcomes for young people and their families.Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, nurturing and supporting clients to engage while assisting in the development of their skills.Develop cultural plans for children and young people.Regularly review and update case plans and record actions in Supported Residential Services (SRS).Participate in conducting strengths needs assessment.Provide information, advice, and support for young people.Maintain necessary client and operational information including logbooks and case notes daily.Ensure secure management of all program files and compliance with applicable privacy legislation and policies.Assess and monitor client needs, identify risks and areas of strengths.Provide the Manager/Practice Lead with all relevant data and information regarding service delivery as required.Demonstrate positive behaviours to young people and their families.Identify safe and appropriate family connections for young people.Build and support families and carers capabilities and connections using a culturally holistic case management approach.Ensure effective case liaison with the Department of Child Safety / Youth Justice.Identify safe and appropriate cultural connections for young people.Build culture, community, and language with young people.Undertake case load management which may include complexity of cases requiring more intensive intervention.Advocate for the provision of appropriate services for the young person.Develop productive working relationships with relevant agency staff, Queensland Police Service, Youth Justice.Liaise with the Practice Lead in relation to all client-related matters, including client needs, engagement, issues, observations, or concerns.Deliver leadership through role modelling and reinforcement of positive behaviours.Hold a small caseload.Support carers with family contact to ensure meaningful family connections.Required Qualifications and ExperienceRelevant qualifications (Cert IV in Child and/or Youth Community Services, Human Services or Behavioural Science e.g.
Certificate III level and ability or willingness to obtain).Demonstrated experience in working in foster care, childcare services, human services, or social care environments.Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.Hope and Healing Certification or willingness to obtain.Current First Aid and CPR certificate.Proven strong communication, consultation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with Child Safety Services, Foster Carers, Youth, and other key stakeholders.Demonstrated abilities in problem solving, and conflict resolution with reference to management of emotional responses for all parties involved in the process.Ability to work autonomously and contribute to effective outcomes within a team.Competent in the use of Microsoft Suite of applications.Knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection Act particularly in relation to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the child protection system.A cultural awareness of the issues impacting young people.Required Licenses and ChecksAbility to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records.Current Blue Card (PAID - Queensland's Working with Children Check).Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld).Ability to obtain LCS2 application for Child Safety and Personal History Screening.Proof of qualifications and current registration (as appropriate) are to be provided prior to commencement of employment.Conditions and Benefits of the PositionTAIHS provides access to an employee assistance program and learning and development opportunities.
