Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
To allow the selection panel to confirm that you are eligible to be considered for this First Nations Identified role, the panel may either: Accept your written assertion that you are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or obtain from you, as part of your formal application, documentary evidence attesting to your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Applicants must also nominate (or provide written reference from) an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to their knowledge, skills or experience to demonstrate cultural capabilities as required.
This person may be a community member, supervisor, or work colleague.
Maintain cultural standards of care in case management framework by providing cultural support for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people during new inductions, caseworker and transition interviews, program referrals, behaviour development plans, special interest young people and review meetings.
Support the development and implementation of a cultural practice policy within the accommodation units.
Improve the overall cultural competency goals within the operational stream through providing cultural advice and education through cultural knowledge training.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and advocate on behalf of the cultural wellbeing of young people in detention.
Provide cultural mentoring and coaching support for Young People in Detention and model appropriate cultural behaviours and expectations.
Deliver regular group counselling sessions via the yarning circle model to support positive peer collective learning outcomes.
Assist in the delivery of criminogenic programs to address recidivous behaviours and support the delivery of effective reintegration and transition pathways.
Support the recruitment attraction and retention employment strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Assist staff to implement effective cultural safety and inclusion practices and procedures.
Uphold the safety and security requirements as it applies within a regulated environment.
