Executive Contract Officer 1 - (Remuneration Package $226,322 – $243,001)Solicitor-General's ChambersDarwinFixed from 24/02/2025 – 26/09/2025 The Solicitor-General's Chambers in Darwin is responsible for the provision of high-level advice to the Northern Territory Attorney-General and executive government at the Cabinet Office.
As part of those Chambers, Crown Counsel is also required, at the discretion of the Attorney-General, to provide advice to Parliament and its various committees.
Crown Counsel will be required to advise and appear in matters where the legislation, executive or judicial powers of the Territory or the Commonwealth are in question, or where the interpretation of the Constitution is raised.
The successful applicant must be admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory and have experience as a practitioner in relevant fields of law, particularly constitutional law, statutory interpretation, public administration law, and commercial law.
In the field of advocacy, Crown Counsel negotiates litigation settlements and other legal agreements; therefore, the successful applicant must possess advocacy skills of a higher order.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the constitutional arrangements pertaining to the Northern Territory, including the relevant operation of the Constitution, the Northern Territory (Self-Government) Act, and the Territory court system.
They will also have knowledge of, and experience with, the workings and processes of government, particularly at the State/Territory level, but also at federal and local government levels.
In advice work, we are looking for an applicant with demonstrated ability in preparing high-quality written submissions and opinions.
This unique opportunity is for a fixed term from 24/02/2025 to 26/09/2025.
The remuneration package that may be offered will be a pro-rata amount of the annual package.
