Primary objective To provide effective management, leadership and development of the Alice Springs office.
To provide direction and high-level advice to staff on legal matters.
To engage with stakeholders on behalf of the Director to facilitate the smooth day-to-day operation of the Alice office, and to attend meetings on the Director's behalf.
To provide advice to the Director and his Deputy, on both complex files as well as the proper administration of the Alice office.
To allocate work across the office, including arranging the briefing of Supreme Court trials.
Key duties and responsibilities Provide high-level management and leadership of the Alice Springs office.Work closely with the Director and Deputy Director to ensure the smooth running of the Alice Springs office.Allocate work to all staff in the Alice Springs office.Provide direction to legal staff on complex criminal matters.Engage with stakeholders and attend meetings on the Director's behalf.Act as a mentor and provide guidance to less experienced prosecutors.Conduct complex trials and hearings in the Local and Supreme Court.Selection criteria Essential Admitted or eligible for admission as a barrister or solicitor of the High Court or of a Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia.Proven high-level management skills.High-level knowledge of and experience in criminal law, practice and procedure.Working knowledge of Uniform Evidence Law.High level oral and written communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to effectively engage, negotiate and collaborate with other agencies, defence agencies, Courts, local communities, other external stakeholders and the general public.Ability to provide high-level expert advice and legal opinion relating to the prosecution of complex criminal cases to the DPP and other prosecutors and to both internal and external stakeholders.Well-developed political and cross cultural awareness skills together with a sound understanding of Indigenous issues relevant to prosecution services.Hold (or have the capacity to obtain) a current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).Further information The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check including a Fingerprint Scan and Name Check.
