This position assists the State Litigator to provide civil legal advice and litigation services to the State and its Agencies by acting as a lawyer, including appearing as required, as counsel, particularly in relation to Abuse in Care matters.

DutiesTo act as Solicitor and Counsel in routine, complex and critical civil matters and appeals on behalf of the State of Tasmania, its instrumentalities and Agencies before a range of courts and tribunals, with a particular emphasis on claims made by those who, as children, were the subject of abuse whilst in care.To provide comprehensive, accurate and timely advice to the State and its Agencies in respect of civil law matters.To provide professional supervision, direction and instruction as may be required to junior legal practitioners in the Abuse in Care team.To participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the State Litigator.Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Registration Status - Employment).Pre-employment ChecksThe Head of State Service has determined that the person nominated for this vacancy is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.
