Follow the link to find out what its like to live, work and play in our wonderful region: Greater Shepparton: Great Things Happen Here About the role: Goulburn Valley Centre Against Sexual Assault (GVCASA) is one of 19 sexual assault support services that operate throughout Victoria.
Together we work to ensure that those who are Victim Survivors of sexual assault have access to comprehensive and timely therapeutic support and interventions to address their needs.
GVCASA provides a range of services including counselling, group work, advocacy, secondary consultation, training for other professionals and community education.
GVCASA also provides a 24hr crisis care response for Victim Survivors of a recent sexual assault.
The Crisis Care Advocate is responsible for the after-hours on-call crisis care component of GVCASA's work, which operates from 5:00pm to 9:00am weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and public holidays.
The Crisis Care Advocate will be rostered to be on-call, for a minimum of 4 shifts per month, during the above-mentioned hours and must be able to attend GV Health or Shepparton Police Station within 30 minutes from receiving a call to support a client who reporting a recent sexual assault.
The aim of the Crisis Care Advocate role is to lesson a Victim Survivor's trauma by empowering them through the provision of information and facilitation of choice and control over outcomes.
Clients who attend the Crisis Care Unit are offered an options talk, support for forensic examinations, police interviews and making police statements and offered follow-up counselling facilitated through a referral to GVCASA.
Training in Sexual Assault Crisis Care will be provided by GVCASA.
This position, amongst others, is responsible for promoting GV Health and GVCASA as a quality regional health service provider.
The successful candidate will have: Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as required and/or membership or eligibility for membership with relevant professional body e.g.
AASW or APA, as applicable.
A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Registered Nurse, Counselling, or other relevant profession; or demonstrated equivalent experience working within a trauma related or sexual assault industry for more than 2 years.
Understanding of the nature and impact of sexual assault on victims/survivors.
Demonstrated assessment skills, crisis counselling skills and experience, and demonstrated advocacy skills.
Availability to be 'on call' for at least 4 shifts per month including overnight during the week, and 24hrs on weekends and on public holidays (rosters are confirmed in advance).
Must live within 30 minutes travel time of GV Health (Shepparton) and hold a current Victorian Driver's license and access for a vehicle (for on-call purposes).
