About this position: Your primary purpose will be to ensure our processing, smelting, and surface operations are informed of weather patterns and prevailing air quality conditions to enable control strategies to be activated to maintain safe and compliant levels. This role will involve working with stakeholders in the Health Safety Environment and Community (HSEC) team and across the wider business.
To deliver on that purpose, some of your responsibilities will include:
Working in the Air Quality Control Centre monitoring process control systems. Regularly communicating with stakeholders about air quality conditions and weather patterns. Studying weather forecasts and observations to prepare and present timely, accurate local weather forecasts. Developing and applying control strategies, systems, and processes. Communicating conditions and decision reasoning to the smelting operations. Identifying opportunities to improve the air quality control system. Ultimately producing good air quality outcomes. What we are looking for from you: Ideally, you will have:
Experience with air quality systems or air quality control. A willingness to work a 24/7 continuous roster of 4:4 (days and nights). An interest in weather patterns and meteorological observation and assessment. Critical thinking skills and the ability to apply logic to make decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Whilst we will provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring, the following would be highly regarded:
Studies in a science-related discipline, environment, meteorology, or similar. The ability to collate and interpret data into understandable reports. High-level knowledge and capability with computer systems. Prior knowledge of our smelter systems (not essential but valued). Roster: As this is a critical function, the Air Quality team operates morning and afternoon shifts, seven days per week. You will work 4 days on, then 2 days off, rotating between morning and afternoon. Shifts are normally 8.5 hours long. Occasionally, when weather conditions require, you may transition to 12-hour shifts to allow 24-hour coverage.
