About the opportunityIn June 2025, Council is launching a new waste service with food and garden bins, marking the most significant change in our waste management approach in 30 years.
We are seeking an experienced leader to join our Waste Services Team on a permanent, full-time basis to spearhead this initiative.
In this crucial role, you will establish and implement the contamination management program, ensuring community engagement to reduce contamination.
You will develop and execute strategies, policies, and educational programs that promote sustainable waste management practices and enhance resource recovery efforts.
You will oversee contamination audits, manage team performance, and provide comprehensive reports on program outcomes, while ensuring compliance with local regulations and safety standards.
Qualifications and experienceTertiary qualifications in an environmental, educational discipline or equivalentRelevant local government or industry experienceProject and resource management experience, including demonstrated ability to deliver related projects within timeframes with reporting outcomes.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including local government authorities, waste management companies, community organizations, and residents.Experience in managing direct report staff with reporting outcomesAbility to prioritise tasks, set goals, and ensure timely completion of milestonesAbility to work independently and as a team member.Demonstrated commitment to customer service and experience in communication with difficult clients.Demonstrated experience in oral and written communication skills.Experience in developing and implementing programs or initiatives, preferably in the context of waste management or environmental sustainabilityStrong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to identify challenges, propose innovative solutions, and drive continuous improvement in relation to behaviour change related to waste management practicesAvailability to work flexible working hours.Remuneration and benefitsThe salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.
Entry level for this position starts at $1,867.95 per weekLeaseback vehicleFlex-timeAllowances for audits conducted outside the ordinary span of hoursEmployee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.Our commitment to safetyBlacktown City Council is committed to safety.
