The School Assurance Branch (the Branch), operating in a complex co-regulatory environment comprising Commonwealth and State and Territory governments, is responsible for the assurance of Commonwealth school funding provided under the Australian Education Act 2013 (the Act) and the Australian Education Regulations 2023 (the Regulations), ensuring the accuracy and integrity of payments through an assurance and compliance program delivered under an Assurance Framework, supported by legislation. The Branch is structured in a way that prevents, detects and responds to non-compliance.For the APS6 Compliance Officer role, you will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in relation to financial assurance and compliance activities outlined in the Schools Funding Assurance Framework, to collect information and analyse data and reports relating to the Australian schools sector and compliance with the requirements of the Act and the Regulation.The key duties of the position include:In the role of APS6 Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for the following:Researching, interpreting and applying legislation, including relevant knowledge of other Commonwealth and State and Territory legislation relevant to the schools sector.Providing advice on compliance with requirements in the legislation, including ongoing compliance activities.Leading investigations and preparing parameters for audits into potential non-compliance with the legislation.Leading or managing the preparation of briefing material and reports, including dashboard reporting.Ability to understand relevant auditing, data, financial analysis, legal and governance concepts and issues in the context of complex compliance matters.Effectively managing relationships with regulated entities in the schools sector, and other Commonwealth, state and territory regulators.EligibilityCitizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department, you must be an Australian Citizen or, in limited circumstances, in the process of obtaining it.Security Clearance - our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
